The Best Drummer In The World.com

Ian Lee has been playing drums professionally for the past 15 years of his life. Upon moving to the US from Canada, Ian joined the band Bad Oskar who soon signed a deal with BMG Music Publishing. The band toured heavily through the Midwest opening for classic rock acts like Cheap Trick, Blue Oyster Cult and Nazzereth, as well as then up and comers like Alice In Chains. The band opened for Ted Nugent at Cobo Arena in Detroit, the place where KISS ALIVE was recorded. Ian listened to this record a lot.

When Bad Oskar broke up Ian cut his beautiful hair and flew to LA to audition for then buzz band (now novelty act) Ugly Kid Joe. They didn’t like his new short hair. Oh well.

Ian then went to work for Bad Oskar’s management (Monster Management) in New York as a crew member for one of their acts Shootyz Groove (Mercury Records) Touring with the likes of 311 and the Mighty Mighty Bosstones. Doing many auditions along the way Ian eventually ended up in Chicago

In Chicago Ian hooked up with local indie rock band Woolworthy to record and support their sophomore effort Sweet Second Place recorded by Chuck Uchita (Old 97’s) and Matt Allison (Alkaline Trio, Lawrence Arms). The record was released in the UK by Boss Tuneage Records.

After Woolworthy Ian hopped through several bands who couldn’t stand the fact that he stole the show with his amazing drumming. Including Not Rebecca (Johanns Face Records) He played with ex- everyone Chicago including ex-Verruca Salt, ex-Ministry, and ex-Urge Overkill. This was Ians “Ex’y” period where he played with you if you had any encounter with anyone Ian thought was the least bit cool, or could get him a better gig. Whore.

During this time he befriended ex Cheap Trick bassist Jon Brant, who Ian recruited to play with ex- MCA recording artist Kevin Lee (no relation, but cool guy)

Fuck

Last year Ian regrouped with members of Not Rebeca and Woolworthy to form a version of Textbook (like we wrote the Textbook on rock, or at least read it) Things went well when the band would get together to write on Sunday nights and soon the band had a full set of material.

The band decided they wanted to hire their favorite producer to record the record. Amazingly they did. They contacted John Agnello who has produced Buffalo Tom, Redd Kross and recently finished buzz band The Kills. They sent the boom box demos to John and he agreed to do the record for a huge sum of money.

The band flew to Water Music in Hoboken and recorded The Great Salt Creek which is being released by indie label Playing Field Recordings out of Champaign. That’s in Illinois. The band is planning to tour the US and Europe behind the record, unless something better comes along for Ian. Whore that he is.
